2009 Lioness
President Wendy Keogh of the Berwick Lioness Club, District 201v3, visited this
website in May of 2009. Even though we are an ocean apart, we have so much in
common so I am sharing their information and photos. The Berwick Lioness Club
had 22 members at this time and are celebrating their 25th Anniversary this year.
Wendy wrote that she has 10 Lioness Clubs under her jurisdiction, with another
about to be certified, and that there are nearly 2000 Lioness in Australia. Although
their Lioness were invited to become Lions by International, Australian Lioness
remain very strong, as do the Lioness Clubs in New Zealand. And she says they
receive great support from their Lions in 201v3. Australian
Lioness Clubs have the same problems we do though - aging members and difficulty
filling the Executive positions. Much like our Clubs, they are experimenting with
job sharing to fill positions, and trying to recruit new, younger members. | Wendy
included pictures of Lions Wilderness Village (called Licola). It has 16 houses
and serves disadvantaged children, much like our Easter Seal Camps for Children
with Disabilities here in BC. Licola is owned by the Lions Clubs in the Australian
states of Victoria and New South Wales. To support Licola, the facility is rented
to groups for weddings, etc. Wendy
asked if any of our Lioness would be attending the MD201 Sydney Convention 2010
as they are having a Lioness Dinner. What a wonderful event that would be - something
to dream about! Some
of the activities the Berwick Lioness Club have done recently - held a Trivia
Night fundraiser, a combined luncheon with another Lioness Club. Below
are some photos Lioness Wendy has shared with our Club. |
