Our visit with DG Marcel and his wife, Nancy Lee was both informative and fun. After Marcel's talk, we all enjoyed a snack break - a potluck of goodies provided by the Lionesses. At the table, Lioness Heather N, Jean W, Marcel's wife Nancy Lee, and SDL Pres. Gail N.

ZC Lion Mari visited the Sooke District Lioness Club at our Feb. 2nd meeting. She talked about the project for a new Lions Club sign on the highway coming into Victoria and about projects for the hearing disabled and for volunteer students.

A very special Lioness District Cabinet Meeting at Parksville on Sunday, May 24th - our Charter President Lioness Anne S about to cut the cake for the 25th Anniversary of the District 19-I Lioness.

May 5th, Zone Chairman Gerry Webb and his wife, Merion visited our Club for a very special purpose. ZC Lion Gerry was there to present our Lioness Jean W with the District Governor's Achievement Award which had been announced at the Port Alberni Convention. And then he surprised us with a very special award, again for Lioness Jean W - the JUDGE BRIAN STEVENSON AWARD !

These awards were given to Lioness Jean W in recognition of her outstanding effort to provide books for Port Renfrew School and for the alternative school, Ed West in Sooke - our ongoing "Lioness for Literacy" Project began by Lioness Jean W (a retired Librarian) with great support by Lioness Jean C (a retired School Teacher).

ZC Gerry got things off to a great start with his hilarious poem introducing DG Steve. DG Steve gave an inspiring talk about the value of the Lioness Clubs, especially in our district, to Lionism. A lively question and answer session followed and only reluctantly did we finally break for refreshments before resuming our regular meeting. Thankyou, DG Steve and guests, for being the highlight of our meeting.

2008

ZC Gerry and Lion Bill

Zone Chairman Gerry Webb and Lioness Liaison Lion Bill Koski visited our Sooke District Lioness den Tuesday, December 2nd. Lioness Jean W presented ZC Gerry with her latest brochure about our Santa Sacks. During the meeting, they learned about our current projects, especially the Santa Sacks and our Lioness for Literacy program, which this year will be supplying books to Port Renfrew School as well as for students at Ed. West, a school for teens 16 to 18 years of age who haven't thrived in the regular school system.

Yellow rose for Treasurer Barb

When it was time for Lioness Barb Y to give her Treasurer's report, Lioness Anne S surprised her with a yellow rose. Barb was away when Installation of the 2008-2009 Executive took place, so she did not receive her yellow rose at the ceremony.
