Lioness Bonnie

She will always be in our hearts

Past President Bonnie (Bonita Lynn) Grunwald died on Oct. 14, 2005 following a long and courageous battle with cancer at age 47. Bonnie was a tireless volunteer with Sooke District Lioness who honored her commitment to Lioness projects, even when her own health was failing. One of Bonnie's special moments was when she as President inducted her mother, Barbara Young into the Sooke District Lioness Club. Bonnie was chosen Lioness of the Year for the Sooke District Lioness twice, last in 2004-2005.

The Sooke District Lioness along with the Sooke Lions have supported the creation of a gazebo in the meditative garden outside the Sooke Child, Family and Youth Centre, a project of the Co-operative Association of Service Agencies (Sooke CASA). A plaque in Bonnie's name has been placed on one of the benches donated by Sooke District Lioness.

In June of 2010, the Sooke District Lioness decided to contribute to the purchase of a commemorative tree and plaque at the Lions Foundation of Canada Memorial Forest in Breslau, Ontario. It is situated on the property of the Dog Guide Training and Breeding Centre, and the donations support the Dog Guide program. Bonnie's parents, Lioness Barb and Lion Ken were able to attend the tree-planting ceremony.
